Yesterday we introduced an awesome new feature: We just launched the SEOlytics Keyword Research within the SEO research module. As you will know, researching good keyword sets is a time-consuming task to accomplish. On top there are rising issues like “not provided” and changes in the functionality of the Google Keyword Planner that makes it more and more difficult to create high quality keyword sets.
The new SEOlytics Keyword Research provides the opportunity to research thousands of keywords in seconds. One highlight is that it works internationally with over 30 country/language combinations. We use a wide variety of sources from long tail, lifestyle and e-commerce and provide reasonable results even deep into the long tail. In case of large countries like Germany and the U.S., the results will usually range from 600 up to 1.200 unique keywords, depending on industry or topic. You will easily generate up to 1.500 keywords in case of common generic phrases. But even phrases like “humus levels in a tropical rainforest” or “alien underwater base evidence” can be found, when entering the seed-terms “humus” or “alien”.
How to use the new function
In the beginning of any search an initial phrase needs to be entered that will set the topic. First select a country via dropdown. Soon we will implement the new “country selector dialogue” for other modules of the software as well, also for enterprise users with their own Industry Research databases.
You can also research multi word combinations to find long tail keywords. The more specific the phrase the more you will limit the results eventually. We recommend, in case of a regular research, to start with 1 to 2 word combinations and to use singular form, if applicable. Enter your term into the “research field” and either hit return or the research button. It might take a few seconds for the data to be processed but you will see keywords within the view as soon as the first results will be available. Therefore, in case of longer lists, keywords will be forwarded in waves. Nonetheless you will be able to work with the processed data right away. An idle icon in the research button and next to the total results marks that there is more data incoming.
Organizing Keyword Research List and Keyword Watchlist
A comprehensive keyword research is not complete after looking up just a single phrase. That is why the layout offers a keyword research list on the left hand side that makes it possible to research terms over and over again and on the right hand side you can manage your keyword watchlist There are no limitations in the amount of watchlists you can manage. Users may work on as many research projects as they like at the same time.
You can use filters to narrow down the researched keywords in your list, if you desire to do so. The search box allows looking for specific charactersor word combinations. You can also e.g. switch easily between short head or the long tail keywords with the word filter.
On the left hand side above the table the amount of the displayed results vs. the total results are shown.
Like SEOlytics users are used to, all the keyword research is unlimited to use and lists are completely exportable – no credit system. Users who use their own tools to organize keyword lists can export their data easily. We now also allow copying data to the clipboard (use the paper clip button) with just one click. Promptly continue to work with the keywords in other applications (e.g. Google Keyword Planner). For your convenience combine SEOlytics with other applications to enhance your workflow. Even your SEA-department will most likely be happy to get their hands on the new function. If the copy to clipboard function is being approved by our users, we will adopt it to other functions within the software as well.
In addition, the keyword research list makes it possible to mark favorite keywords and to filter for favorites. You may transfer single keywords (small arrow button) or a bulk of marked keywords (big arrow button) to your watchlist. The tabs above the list act as a “toggle” in order to select or deselect all. The “x” will let you delete single keywords or even a bulk with the “x”-toggle, providing that you marked several ones. This comes in handy in case you want to already work with the accessible data while the function still generates new results. The removal acts like a “blacklist” when you discard keywords. If you made a larger mistake you can reset the complete list by clicking the “reset list” button.
For a quick check keyword suggestions can be transferred to Google or Google Trends via click on the icons. A new window will open with the correct country settings already applied. This is a useful to check competition on the first Google page or to check the search trend related to specific products.
The watchlist can be narrowed down using the same filters as already shown. Marked keywords can be transferred easily to the daily SEO Monitoring by using the arrow-button. This will opens the SEO Monitoring setup which allows assigning keywords to domains.
Watchlists can be managed below the table. Create, delete, rename and load the lists desired. Save lists at any time and load them again to continue your search. If you want to expand existing lists, first load your watchlist again and after adding new keywords to it, save it again.
As a final pro tip we are introducing possibilities to research deep within the long tail to find e.g. keywords for accessories or even content ideas: The initial search box allows using wild cards! The basic idea is to use a “*” (asterisk) in a phrase or a question and define the area you want suggestions for. Here are some examples how to use them:
* in new york
(examples will range from “dream hotel in new york” to “obituaries in new york”)
* for camera
(examples will range from “app for camera” to “vintage film for camera”)
bag for *
(examples will range from “bag for grad school” to “bag for 9 foot Christmas tree”)
how * justin bieber
(examples will range from “how did justin bieber became famous” to “how to draw justin bieber step by step for kids”)
Compared to a regular research, the use of wildcards will always deliver fewer results or sometimes no results at all in case of inappropriate questions. That kind of research goes deep into the long tail. In order to find content ideas the best thing to do is using questions (“how * tree house” or “will * 2013) so that your question can be complemented through our research. The function can also be used to find content ideas regarding topics that people are searching for, especially in the area of self-support (how do I solve this/ where do I get help) and life style (what are popular topics regarding vips or series). Online shops might even identify relevant accessories that can be used to expand the shop portfolio, if applicable. We are pretty sure that you got the intention on how to use wild cards and that you will find tons of other possibilities how to use them efficiently.
We hope you like the new SEOlytics Keyword Research and that this will save you a tremendous amount of time. We have a lot of ideas how to expand and develop this feature further in the future, especially in order to expand it by adding further KPIs. Stay tuned!
The research is unlimited for PRO, ELITE and larger. All Starter users will share a quota, which means there is a chance research will be limited if many use it at the same time. If you are interested in batch processing or high-volume access feel free to contact me.
